Minutes of January 2005 Bell Air Flyers Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Jerry McLean at 7:10 PM at the Heritage Flight Museum hangar. He announced that the museum would allow the club to bring models for static display at the Museums monthly open house. The museum has an open house the third Saturday of the month, 12:00 to 4:00PM . Participation should be mutually beneficial to both organizations.

The agenda for the meeting was to set up the schedule of events for 2005.The following events were discussed:

Pylon Racing will be headed by Jerry McLean and combat by Charles Pilchard. These events are proposed to be on alternating Thursdays. The schedule will be announced later.

Sea to Ski Parade...the exact date has not been announced yet. Don Wilson and Pat Eastman have volunteered to work on this event.

Big Bird. This event has been set for June 4 th and 5 th. Mark Metge and Bill Schnobrich are the C.D.s; Russ Haines volunteered to head the organization committee. Gail Buck will be the head of the food committee. Jim Bradshaw agreed to look into advertising for the event.

Scale Meet has been set for July 9 th, club members and friends only. Gerry Becker will be CD, Ken Huber and Chas. Pilchard have volunteered to judge. Two more judges will be needed. John Torillo said he would work in the transmitter impound. The event will be similar to last year, except for the judging will be done by a panel, instead of the pilots. Gerry stated that entrants should have some form of documentation. As usual more workers are needed. See Gerry for more details or to help.

All Bird Event is set for Aug 27 th and a possible fun fly for the 28 th. Rennie Stefani volunteered to work on the event. Someone is still needed to head up and co-ordinate the event, also more volunteers to help.

CAN AM FLY IN has been tabled until a date can be established with the Canadian clubs.

Several other events were proposed;

Gerry Becker proposed an electric only fun-fly fly-in event. Members expressed interest in an electric event.

December 12 has been proposed for the annual Christmas Party/ meeting. Details to be worked out at a later date.

Kelly Nelson proposed having a swap meet. It was agreed that we will have one at the first field meeting.

Kelvin asked that club members advertising items for sale on the web site to remove the notices when the items are sold.

Since there is no mall event this year there was some discussion on fund raising. There will be a raffle for $250.00 cash/ merchandise certificate, with only 100 tickets sold at $5.00 each.

The club has also purchased a Real Flight simulator to raffle at the Big Bird event. There was considerable discussion of whether or not to add a model to raffle. Gerry B. will look into a beginner type electric model as a possibility instead of a glow type trainer. The matter was tabled until the next meeting.

It was decide to set a budget on all of the events at $150 each.

Russ Haines will set up a mowing schedule to hopefully cause the least interference with flying. Helpers are always needed and appreciated. Weather is a big factor in this matter.

Rennie Stefani was appointed head instructor for the year. Other instructors should co-ordinate with Rennie on certifying soloed students.

Safety:

More safety fencing was discussed. Several ideas were proposed. The discussion was tabled until more details can be worked out to be presented at a later meeting.

The Safety Officer, Gerry Becker presented some outlines for pilot / spotter duties to the members for evaluation/ feedback.

There was a show and tell time. Charlie P. showed his new electric fun-fly plane. Charlie also presented some new designs for “T” shirts to sell.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. After which the monthly raffle was held.

Submitted for your approval. James Bradshaw, secretary.
