The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm ; a sign-up sheet was passed out to the membership as well as copies of the club roster for those interested. There were no guests. October’s minutes were read and approved. There were no new communications to the club. Renny gave the Treasurer’s Report, settlement of all outstanding bills and a summary of the value of shirts, hats and patches to be sold in 2010. Paul gave the President’s Report: A group of student engineers at University of British Columbia has asked if we would allow them to test fly a plane that they designed and built for a “Heavy Lift” international competition to take place in California in March. The plane must be able to lift between 24 and 28 pounds; all use the same engine and fuel. Take-off has to be from a 200’ runway, a complete circle and then landing has to be accomplished. The plane will be piloted by Gordon Giles who holds a MAAC license. A motion was made to allow these test flights and was passed unanimously. December’s meeting/Christmas Party will be on the 14 th at 7:00pm , Ferndale WECU Credit Union Building. The January meeting will also be held at WECU, third Monday @ 7:00pm . January meeting is the time to update your membership; it will also be the time to submit ideas for long range improvements to the club site. Slips will be handed out for you to fill out and return to Paul. We can then keep track of ideas. Bill Law will be the editor for our new newsletter which will be sent out quarterly (January/April/July/October). Material needs to be submitted by the 8 th of the publishing month so the letter can be ready to mail on the 17 th. Date of major events need to be set prior to January’s mailing. The E-Board will be responsible for the content of the letter to include Safety Tips from Jay, Flight Tips from Renny and a President’s Report. A motion was made and passed that we continue with the newsletter. The club Memorial Plaque will be updated once a year. The club website now includes rules for pylon flying. Jay gave the Safety Report: We need to see if we are located in the 30 nautical mile circle “no fly” zone set up for the BC Winter Olympics. We have to be at least 30 N.M. from Vancouver Airport . If we are not, the field will be closed to flying between January 29 th and March 24 th. We will check our coordinates with Homeland to make sure we are not involved in this ruling. Jay has posted operation guidelines for the new taxi-ways in the impound shack. A “stop” line will be painted on the ways when weather allows. A problem with buddy-boxes has been discovered whereby a transmitter (72 mhz) can still send out a signal even thou it is turned off! This can happen when connected to an instructor’s transmitter. Play it safe and pull the pins for both frequencies. There were no nominations for new officers, the 2009 members will remain in force for 2010. Old Business: Renny stated that existing members have until the March meeting to renew memberships or take a chance making the quota. If you plan to fly after January 1 st, you have until February meeting to renew. It is safer to renew at January’s meeting. Don’t forget about your AMA/MAAC license also! If you are a snowbird, take application with you and mail back to Renny after January 1 st. Those ordering name tags should see them in two weeks. New Business: members cannot open up the new membership application that is posted on our website. Paul will work with Kelvin to fix. Matt Coe brought in his Seagull Yak to show progress. He has installed an OS 91 for power and has asked for suggestions to hook up flight surfaces and received plenty of help. We are all looking forward to seeing his plane fly in the Spring. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm . Respectfully submitted - Rory Cahill |
