Minutes Feb.22, 2005 |
| Minutes for the February Bell Air R.C.Flyers Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Jerry McLain at 7:05 P.M. at the Heritage Flight Museum hanger. Jerry made an announcement of the raffles, the 100 ticket only $250 prize and the regular monthly raffle. There are quite a few tickets remaining yet to be sold on the 100 ticket raffle. Two new members were received, Mr. Merle Beller and Mr. Peter Hauck. Merle is a newcomer to R.C while Pete is a newcomer to Bellingham but an old hand at Radio control. Welcome to the club gents. The Sea to Ski parade has been set for May 28. Don Wilson is the co-ordinater of our part of that event. There was some discussion of having a practice pylon race next month, with participants flying any type of model just to see what it is like. There were no decisions made on this proposed event. The treasurer did not give a report on the state of the club finances; she is still working on that presentation... Jim Bradshaw gave a summary of the January minutes. Jerry proposed that the club pay for the treasurer’s AMA dues, since the AMA charter requires AMA membership for all club offices. Gail is a MAAC member. A vote was taken and the proposal approved. Russ Haines announced that the AMA sanction for the big bird has been received and planning can proceed. After discussion and member vote, an electric only fun fly has been scheduled for August 6 th. Mark Metge and Scott Wolff will be in charge of the event. A show of hands indicated considerable interest in the event. Jerry presented a plan for additional safety fences to add to the present pilot stations. There was discussion on T shirts and the new proposed designs. There are still T shirts left from last year. There was discussion on raffle for the big bird event. It was decided to only have the flight simulator to raffle and no model this year. Jerry presented his idea of having a memorial plaque to honor deceased members who were active in the past. A vote was taken and the proposal accepted. The plaque would be displayed in the impound area. Jerry would like to have help in finding names of deceased members. He would also like help in creating a club history and asked for the memberships help in this project. Materials have been received and a new wind sock is being made for the field. It was proposed to ask some of the local CAP cadets to help at events since they have shown interest at the Museum’s open house. Ken Huber gave an informative, impromptu talk on flying 3D maneuvers. Gerry Becker and Ken Huber presented the format for the scale meet. Basically there will be a panel of judges who will judge the models. Scale outline (for which documentation is needed) detail and workmanship are the criteria for static display. Judging will be made at a distance of twenty feet. Flying will be judged on how scale-like that the required and optional maneuvers appear. The optional maneuvers should be appropriate to the full scale aircraft. {Example: A J-3 Cub would not likely be doing 3D maneuvers.} Scale take off and fly by are the first required maneuvers. The pilot makes choice of the optional ones appropriate to the aircraft. A scale entry into the flight pattern, approach and landing are the last of the required maneuvers. . There was discussion about having more presentations at the meetings. Scott Wolff suggested that a “how to” on engine bearings would be useful. More input for presentations would be welcome. Jerry McLain suggested that club members who have special skills and want to market them could use the club website to advertise. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 and the raffle was held. Submitted for your approval…. Jim Bradshaw, secretary |
