Bell-Air Flyers February Monthly Meeting

February16th, 2009 7:00pm @WECU Ferndale

E-Board members in attendance: Paul Baker – President, Mark Metge – Vice President, Renny Stefani – Treasurer, Jay Schoening -
Safety Officer, Gene Tapparo – Field Marshall, Rory Cahill – Secretary. 29 club members in attendance.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Paul Bakes said the Incorporation paperwork has been completed for 2009 and the charter paperwork has arrived from AMA.

March and April’s monthly meetings will be held again at the same location, same time. May’s meeting will be held at the field. Thanks again to Donna Baker for her home cookin’.

New member Chris Kelly was introduced.

January’s minutes were read and approved. Renny gave the Treasurer’s Report, the club has $2,231.77 with 45 members already paid up for the year.

Jay Schoening read some of Nitro Planes “safety precautions” as part of his report; he also reminded members that it is unsafe to fly alone at the field. If a person were to suffer a serious prop strike or medical condition, it is a long way to go for medical attention.

Pat Eastman said he will not be able to help at “Big Bird” this year and will not be able to put ou flyers for the event. This will be the 20 th year for “Big Bird”!

Gerry Becker has made up flyers for “Warbirds Over Whatcom” and has already started to distribute them. Several were given at the Hobby Expo at Monroe last week. Gerry feels that the vendors may be tight with donations this year for the events. Fees for the Warbirds event will be up this year - $10 per day or $15 for both days.

Hoby Acres has had the Honey Bucket serviced.

Susie a Performance RC has made the club a great deal on a Hobbico Super Star Select MkII RTF trainer for the raffle this year. Tickets will be sold at the Heritage Air Museum as well as all of our major events. Heritage has also put our event schedule on their website.

Hoby Acres is buying new mowers this year, they may want to give the club their old ones. A motion from the floor was passed that if they should give the mowers to us, we accept. Extra storage will be needed and will be part of the consideration when the Spring inventory at the field is complete. George Crum has volunteered to mow the high grass around the field if the club can arrange to get his tractor and mower to the field. A trailer will be rented.

At March’s meeting, there will be a silent auction of airplanes and parts donated by a former member who is moving. Sales will be shared between the member and the club.

Gene Tapparo passed out order slips for fuel Money is to be to him by Monday, February 23, 2009.

Jay Schoening made a motion that proposed a cap on membership at 100, not including Hoby Acres owners. 2008 members need to renew their 2009 memberships by the March meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

Hoby Acres would like to start taxi-way work in April and has asked the club for help with the labor.

Gerry Becker showed the club the spreadsheet he uses to keep track of his planes, engine requirements and frequencies.

Jay showed the membership how to fiberglass a wing and prepare for painting.

Matt Coe brought his “show and tell” school project showing the difference between 2 and 3 blade props. Very well done!

Respectfully submitted – Rory Cahill
