Minutes April, 2005

April Meeting Minutes

 

The meeting was called to order by President Jerry Mc Lean at 7:10 pm at the Heritage Flight Museum.

Two new members were introduced, George Crum and Gene Carr.

Reports:

The minutes of the March meeting were read by Secretary Jim Bradshaw

Treasurer Gail Buck gave the financial report. Field Report; Russ Haines gave a report on the field condition. The field has been mowed and steps are being taken to handle the dandelion population. The new wind sock has still yet to be installed and will be done at the next work party.

Ski to Sea Parade: Don Wilson asked for people to sign up to bring models and help with the parade.

Jerry announced that he would not be able to be at the next museum open house. Ms Gail Buck will be in charge and Jerry asked members to come and help with display and ticket sales.

Old Business: The compilation of names for the memorial plaque is still in work.

Charles P. is finalizing a design for this year’s “T” shirts.

New Business: John Turillo announced that Bellingham Parks and Recreation has asked the club to put on demonstrations for a couple of youth groups, August 26 and Sept 2.

Jerry suggested that we add some fun fly events to the annual Can Am Fly- In on May 7 th...Al Wackerbarth and Russ Haines volunteered to do the food for the event.

It was decided to have a work party on April 30 th starting at 10:00 to prepare the field for summer events and club use. We will be installing the pilot stations and additional starting pads for larger models. A few starting tables have been slated for remodels.

Jerry M. asked people to bring bird houses for swallows, to encourage the birds to find nesting places other than the club house and transmitter impound. These birds are our most effective weapon against the nasty old mosquito population.

Head instructor Rennie Stefani announced that Mark Petee has officially soloed.

Mike Bishop will mow the outfield at the next meeting time.

The next meeting will be at the Field 6:00 pm with a swap meet before and after. Members were asked to bring items to swap or sell.

Safety: Gerry Becker has obtained a new large first aid kit for the container.

Earl Cammack gave a talk on First Aid and stressed the importance of applying pressure to wounds and the use of gloves as well as watching for signs of shock. He also discussed how to call for aid and transport for the injured person. It is also important for fellow club members to pack up the injured person’s equipment and get his or her vehicle home or to a safe place.

Since the south Red River will be paved this year, the need for low flying model aircraft signs was discussed. Russ Haines said he would contact Hoby Acres with the proposal.

Safety Officer Berry Becker again reviewed some of the club safety rules and some cautions on the use of epoxy and CA adhesives. He also stressed the need to avoid flying over the road on base leg approach and to fly parallel to the road before turning onto final.

Show And Tell: Jerry McLean and Charlie Pilchard presented their new Delta design models, Ken Huber showed and talked about his new large” Edge” model.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.
