Minutes

May 2006 Bell Air meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM at the club’s flying field. There were 31 members present.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

OFFICERS REPORTS

Treasurer:

Gail Buck reported that after expenses and raffle tickets sales there is about $2874 in the club’s account.

Safety Officer:

Scott Wolff stressed the need for pilots to call out their intentions for landing and taking off. Persons entering the flying area to retrieve models, etc. should make their presence known to the pilots flying.

Presidents Report:

Pat reported that the outer field had been mowed, thanks to VP Mike Bishop. This area has the potential to be mowed closer to the ground and possibly take the place of a cross wind runway. He also says that with the larger mowed area, pilots should be aware of the barb-wire fence and the ditch. The fence posts have been painted white to make them more visible. Pat also reaffirmed that current AMA and MAAC membership is required to use the field.

Committee Reports:

Combat: Wally Swartz reports the combat will start on June1st. He needs people to contact him and sign up.

Pylon Racing; Jim Bradshaw reported that the course has been re-measured. Racing will be starting on June 8 th. He asked for confirmation on who and how many will be racing.

Old Business:

Pat reported that the May 6 th work party was a success. Pat thanked the workers for their efforts. The runway has been patched and the club house cleaned up and some painting has been done. The club sign is back up on the building. Safety barriers are now back in place on the field, and many other small tasks were completed.

It was proposed and approved to have the 50-50 drawing at the All Bird event. Ticket sales will continue until then.

Members were reminded that the Museum’s open house continues on the 3 rd Saturdays of the month, and that planes and bodies to sell raffle tickets etc. are needed.

New Business:

Ski to Sea Parade; President Pat Eastman asked members to participate by bringing models to display on the trailer and truck bed. People are also needed to pass out leaflets along the parade route. Since it is not permitted to do this from the parade route itself, we need to pass them out from behind the spectators along the route.

The trailer is to be at the old supermarket parking lot at Alabama and James for preparation for the parade. The parade starts at noon.

Scott Wolff has agreed to head up the fun fly set for Sunday, August 27 th.

Big Bird:

Pat asked for a work party to set up the field before the Big Bird on Friday June 2 nd, at 10:00 AM. Also people are needed to help with the event on Saturday and Sunday. Parking control, plane inspection, help with food, at the raffle ticket sales- information table, safety and frequency control are some of the necessary tasks.

The museum can give us a fly by on Sunday with one of their aircraft, probably an AT 6.

Pat also asked members to help with publicity for Big Bird and other events. He has contacted other clubs and invited them to attend.

The Ferndale Record Journal will be at the field on Thursday May 18 th at 2PM. They may do a feature article on the club. Members were encouraged to come out to fly.

Pat also reminded members of all the upcoming events and encouraged members to participate.

Head instructor Rennie Stefani presented Pete Sweet with his solo certificate. Pete successfully completed his training with Rennie

Mr. Steen Willand has overhauled the generator and it is now working great.
