June 2006 Minutes, Bell Air RC Flyers

The meeting was called to order at 5:50 PM at the field by the president. There were 15 members and 5 visitors present.

The minutes of the May 2006 meeting were read and approved.

Presidents Report:

The president gave a brief financial report, in the absence of the treasurer.

Event report:

The Ski to Sea parade was successful, thanks to the efforts of Pat and Brian Eastman, Al Wackerbarth, Mike Bishop, Wally Swartz, Russ Haines, Kelvin and Gail Buck and Earl Cammack.

Pat Eastman reported the Big Bird event. It was declared a success in spite of the rain out on Sunday. There were 24 pilots and 42 planes in the line up and a good gallery of spectators to witness the 80 plus flights. After the event was closed down on Sunday, weather improved later in the day and some of the pilots put on a show for the spectators that began to appear. One of the flight museum’s AT-6 also made a impressive fly by. The modification to the club house worked quite nicely as well as using the pop machine instead of cans reduced the problem of inventory considerably.

Pat announced that the Heritage Flight museum is planning a big open house for August 19 th with a War Bird fly-in from other collections as well as their own. Hours are 9 AM until 4 PM, and should be a good show. Also there will be a dance with a big band in the hanger the night before on August 18 th.

Gerry Becker reported on the upcoming scale meet for July 8 th. He has scheduled set up for 8am, pilot meeting at 9am, static judgment before flying, lunch break-pot luck at noon and hopefully a group picture after lunch. Flying can continue until 3pm, after which the field will be open to other flying.

New Business:

The president had to leave and handed the rest of the meeting over to the secretary.

The secretary reminded the group of the upcoming events; the scale meet on July 8 th, War Birds Over Whatcom August 5 th and 6 th, All Bird fly in and potluck and the fun fly on August 27 th.

Several members expressed a concern for the safety of models parked on the south end of the flight line during events. This area is beyond the protection of the flight station barriers. It was voted on and approved to extend or add fencing beyond the flight stations at future events.

Earl Cammack presented new member Chuck Swanson with his solo certificate on his successful completion of basic flight training.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 pm.

Minutes were recorded for approval by Jim Bradshaw
