The meeting was called to order at 6 pm by President Pat Eastman. There were 25 members and 9 guests present.
The minutes of the June meeting were read and approved.
Old business:
Presidents Report:
Pat reported that the flight barriers had been repaired by Russ Haines and Al Wackerbarth.
He added that a few members had enjoyed a 4 th of July camp out and had left the premises in good order.
Pat declared the Fun Scale event a success. He reminded the group of the Flight museum’s upcoming event on August 19 th, and asked members to support the event with a static display of our better looking models. We were reminded of our first ever warplane fly in, “Warbirds Over Whatcom” scheduled for August 5 th and 6 th. The meeting was then over to the Vice President Mike Bishop.
Fun Scale Event:
CD Gerry Becker reported on the scale event. There were 14 pilots and 17 planes with a good mix of war birds, civilian, and ARF models. The event drew some excellent model aircraft from other groups as well as those of former Scale Masters Event participants Randy Smithhisler and Bob Benjamin. Nigel Tarvin’s beautiful Lockheed Vega from Canada was the hit of the show, and captured the pilot’s award. The event was proclaimed a success.
Pylon Racing and Combat:
Jim Bradshaw reported that weather conditions had caused 2 cancellations, but one Thursday event had been run successfully.
Wally Swartz reported on the combat events.
New business:
“Warbirds Over Whatcom”
Contest Director Gerry Becker outlined the format and schedule for the upcoming “Warbirds Over Whatcom” event. It is to be an AMA sanctioned event covering two days August 5 th and 6 th and is the first of its type to be held in North Western Washington.
Miscellaneous new business
The wind sock is in disrepair and a new one is needed. Mike asked for volunteers. Reminders of upcoming events;
