Bell Air July 21, 2008 Meeting Minutes

Call to order:

The meeting was called to order at 6PM at the field by acting chairman Gerry Becker. The President, Vice- President and Treasurer were absent. Twenty one members and guests signed in.

Minutes of the June meeting were not read, but were available.

There are currently 74 members in the club.

The club treasury is reportedly the same as last month.

 

Old business:

A new lock for the gate has been purchased by Hoby Acres. Pat Eastman stated that it is not as sturdy as the old one and should be put out of the way of traffic at the gate.

New Business:

Gerry Becker discussed plans for the ‘War Birds Over Whatcom “event. Some prizes have been received from vendors for the pilot raffle and Gerry has a few trophies for presentation. Trophies will be awarded by pilot ballot.

He asked for a set up crew on Friday, August 1 st at 10 AM. Spaces are needed for two vendors as well as the usual additional safety fences etc.

Jerry Mc Lean proposed having some pylon racing as a noon show or later in the afternoon. This will be decided later.

Mr. Becker reported that 5 Bell Air members participated in the Skagit Club’s “Big Bird “event held at the Concrete Washington Airport, July 18, 19 and 20 th.

Renny Stefani presented a solo certificate to George Eckhardt. George successfully soloed June 25 th.

The Flight Museum is being forced to move, and there will be no open house for August. Other activities at the Museum are on hold for a while until a new facility is established.

Mike Peetoom, who owns Ferndale Flooring, offered the use of his business facility for meetings in case the Museum is not available next winter.

Rory Cahill presented a bill for the food; Jim Bradshaw has re-imbursed him in cash. Jim has the bill.

 

Safety report:

Safety Officer Jay Shoening reported on potential problems with Li-Po battery use in transmitters. Li-Po’s are rendered useless if discharged below their minimum voltage. Users are also cautioned that devices designed to cut off the battery to prevent over discharge could cause loss of control while flying.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30.
