August 2005 Meeting

The August 15, 2005 meeting was called to order at the club field by the president, Jerry McLean . Since the secretary was on vacation the minutes of the last meeting were not read.

Treasurer Gail Buck gave the financial report.

VP Charlie Pilchard reported on the combat activity.

Jerry Mclean reported on the pylon racing and thanked all of the people who helped with judging, timing etc.

Russ Haines reported the field was OK and that the new barriers worked when they were attacked by a larger model.

Head Instructor Rennie Stefani reported that one new pilot had soloed.

Mark Metge gave a report on the electric fun fly. There was a good turnout and it was a lot of fun, the only prizes being bragging rights.

Jerry asked for members to come to the Museum open house, and bring models to display.

Members were reminded that the All Bird Fly-In will be held on Saturday August 27 th. Members were asked to bring salads etc. to accompany salmon and corn on the cob at the noon break.

Also the annual fun fly is on Sunday, August 28 th. All flying skill levels were encouraged to participate.

Dates for the Christmas party were discussed. Scott Wolfe will check on Dec. 5 th availability for the Whatcom Credit Union facility.

Two new utility tables have been purchased for events.

The 50-50 raffle is still going with a few more ticket sales needed before the drawing.

There was some discussion of the proposed War Birds Over Whatcom for a possible event next year.

Safety Officer Gerry Becker reported that a prop came off, striking another person on the leg. No injury occurred. Gerry also stressed the need for spotters when there are more than 3 or 4 planes in the air.

A member proposed that an aerobatic meet might be something of interest. There was some discussion on the proposal.

Rennie Stefani still needs more people to order fuel to get the best price.

Jerry Mclean suggested that members could share their old magazines with others by leaving them in the rack in the club house.

Charlie P. showed his new glow lighter gadget.

The meeting was adjourned and the monthly raffle was held.
