August 2006 Bell Air R/C Flyer Meeting

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 6 pm by President Pat Eastman.

Officer Reports :

Secretary-The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer-Pat Eastman gave the treasurer’s report in the absence of the treasurer.

President- The president announced the items in the raffle. Pat reported on the successful “War Birds Over Whatcom” event and thanked all who helped make it a fun event. He also presented an invitation to an event on La Grand Ore., and one from Paul Allen’s war bird collection.

Vice President’s report- Mike Bishop was unable to attend the meeting.

Safety- In the absence of the safety officer, Pat gave a brief talk on safety.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Contest Director Gerry Becker reported on the War bird event. He thanked all who helped in making the event successful. There were 17 registered pilots and 32 models entered. There were approximately 60 sorties flown by the variety of planes. Gerry announced the winning picks of the pilots: Best WW1 plane and pilot, the 1/3 scale Sopwith Pup flown by Bill Pottage, the best WW2 was Kelvin Bucks Corsair, the best post WWII was Jay Schoening’s T28, best military trainer was Renny Stefani’s large PT 19, best electric powered war bird was Jim Bradshaw’s Fokker EIII. Bill Pottage’s large Sopwith Pup was declared best of show. Gerry also thanked the folks who had put on noon time demonstrations on both days.

Pat Eastman thanked those who participated in the Museum’s war bird event.

The wind sock has been replaced, thanks to Mrs. Lee Carter and her sewing skills.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Pat reminded the members of the upcoming All Bird event on August 26 th..All members are invited to fly and their families are invited to attend. The potluck lunch will be at 1 pm. Sunday, the 27 th, is the annual fun fly directed by Scott Wolff. This is a low key event and all skill levels can participate.

The Museum’s next open house is on September 16 th.

September’s meeting will be at the field, the last one at the field this year. October’s meeting will be held at the Heritage Flight Museum .

New business presented from the floor included concerns over the extension of the safety fence and the property for sale next to the flying site.

Show and Tell- Rafael showed his recent purchase of a trainer rescued from a book store. Pat Eastman showed his new Bearcat.

The meeting was adjourned at 7pm , and the raffle was held.
