August 20, 2007 Bell Air R-C Flyers Meeting.

The August meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM at the field by acting Vice- President Bill Law. The President and Treasurer were unavoidably late due to delays at the Sumas border crossing. There were 32 members and guests present. The Treasurer’s report and the reading of the last meetings minutes were waived.

Old Business:

Bill thanked the members for their work in making the ‘Warbirds Over Whatcom’ event a success. The two day affair was well attended.  Contest Director Becker thanked all who participated.  There were 16 pilots and 24 aircraft registered as well as 10 unregistered display models. Seventy flights in all were logged with no crashes or injuries reported. Winners were chosen by pilot ballot in the seven categories as follows, Best WW1 went to Mike Mosbrooker and his ¼ scale Sopwith Pup. Best of WW2 went to Jay Schoening and his FW190, Best Post War Military to Renny Stefani and his PT19, the Best Military Trainer to Bill Schnobrich and his Stearman PT17, Best ARF was Ken Huber’s P38, and Best Electric Powered went to Jim Bradshaw’s WW1 Fokker Eindecker. The Best of Show award went to Kelvin Buck for his great F4U Corsair.

 New Business:

Pat Eastman presented the schedule for the ‘All Bird’ and potluck event to be held on Saturday August 25th. He asked for help in setting up tents and tables on Saturday at 9 AM. Flying can begin after setup with the potluck at 1PM. Master BBQ salmon chefs Joe Merrithew and Dick Clark will cook the salmon furnished by Garret Reynolds and Hannegan Sea Foods. People were asked to bring other dishes to compliment the salmon and hot dogs furnished by the club.

The ‘Fun Fly’ event for Sunday was cancelled by vote of the members.

Safety:

Gerry Becker advised that any unfortunate flyers who lose planes out in the tall grass to get a walkie talkie and a flag. The grass in the far outfield is too tall to see a person out there, and the flag is necessary for helpers directing the search. Searchers should use caution in walking as there are many hidden ditches and holes in the area.

Special:

Long time member, George Yewell has retired from flying. He had several models, engines, and other equipment at the meeting to be sold at auction, with proceeds to go to the club. Thanks, George!

The meeting was adjourned at 7 PM.
