Bell Air R/C Flyers Meeting September 21, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 6pm by the President. Thirty nine members were present including the Executive Board minus the Secretary. Paul welcomed the members and asked visitors and new members to introduce themselves. Guests were William and Joe Marino, Kenny Klocke, Melanie Walker, Susan Sullivan and Lenny Angelo. The attendance sheet was passed around for all to sign.

The minutes of the August meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer Rennie Stefani presented the financial report along with a break down of income and expenditures. Contact Rennie for details.

Paul gave the President’s report. He stated that the annual All Bird and potluck event was a success. It was well attended and all were able to enjoy barbequed salmon courtesy of Hannegan Seafoods, and Garret Reynolds, as well as all the other goodies furnished by the members and spouses. The weather was perfect for the event.

The fly-in at the Lynden airport was well attended. Ten members supplied twenty models for static display at the event.

The fall clean up is scheduled for Oct.10th at 9AM.In case of rain work party will be the following week. Taxi ways are to be installed on the same day. Much help will be needed to accomplish the clean up and assist in the taxi way project. People are asked to bring shovels, rakes, etc, for the clean up. Several weed eaters will be needed to clean out the drain culverts.

Safety Officer Jay Schoening reported a near miss, airplane vs. car on the road at the North side of the field. No damage other than some rattled nerves. Aircraft should approach the runway parallel to the road and make a left turn onto final when landing in the left to right pattern. He also stated that MSDS sheets for most of our hazardous materials are available on line now. These would be useful information for safely using our modeling paints, glues etc. as well as in treating injuries from improper use of or exposure to these items.

In lieu of a show and tell Sam Farrar was invited to relate his story of the treed park flyer, which was enjoyed by all.

Jerry Mc Lean asked the club for funds for pylon racing trophies. The club voted $50 for this purpose. The final races of the season held on Sept. 19 th were well attended and all had a good time, thanks to all the non-flyers’ help in running the event.

Bill Schnobrich presented Jim Walker with his solo certificate.

Gerry Becker reported that 4 new folding tables were purchased from Hardware Sales for $39 each. These will replace the aging tables for use at events.

He also announced that the “War Birds over the Cascades” event is going to be held at the Snohomish Family Flyers field on the Snohomish – Monroe Road , Sept 26 th. Robert Bailey is the CD. Ph # 253 549 4068

Mark Metge has procured the use of the Ferndale WECU for the next two meetings. They will only book two months at a time.

Paul asked for suggestion for the annual Christmas party. Hopefully the WECU facility will be available for that time.

Five members have been added to the deceased member’s plaque this year, with Ronald Johnson being the latest addition.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 PM ; Next meeting is at 7PM October 19 th at the Ferndale WECU just east of I-5 near the Ferndale exit.
